Egg Shortage In America As Bird Flu Has Already Killed 45 MILLION Chickens And Turkeys

Posted on June 16th, 2015

EggsBy Michael Snyder

Did you know that 25 percent of all egg production in the United States has already been taken offline due to the bird flu crisis?  You aren’t hearing much about this in the mainstream media, but at this point bird flu has claimed the lives of 45 million chickens and turkeys in America.  When I wrote about this a month ago, the number of dead birds was sitting at about 20 million.  In just 30 days, the death toll has risen by an astounding 20 million.  This is a major crisis and it is already causing egg shortages around the country, and yet very few people seem alarmed about this?  Why is that?

And it isn’t just one strain of the bird flu virus that we are talking about.  Right now, there are two strains which are spreading like wildfire. Read More..

Days after Claiming Credit for Increased Oil Production, Obama Moves to Limit It

Posted on January 27th, 2015

By Thomas Lifson

In his State of the Union address, President Obama toured America’s accomplishments in expanding oil and gas production (as if federal actions had anything to do with it).  Just 5 days later, the Obama administration is preparing steps to declare 1.4 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve as “wilderness,” meaning no oil drilling allowed.

Juliet Eilperin of the Washington Post:

The Obama administration will propose setting aside the 1.4 million-acre coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) as wilderness, the White House announced Sunday, a move that will spark a fierce battle with the new Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee chairman, Lisa Murkowski, and other Alaska Republicans.

“Alaska’s National Wildlife refuge is an incredible place — pristine, undisturbed. It supports caribou and polar bears, all manner of marine life, countless species of birds and fish, and for centuries it supported many Alaska native communities. But it’s very fragile,” said President Obama in a just released White House video on the move.

The well-crafted video pulls on the heartstrings , all right:

But, as the TV pitchmen always say, “Wait, there’s more”:

The announcement, according to individuals briefed on the plan, is just the first in a series of decisions the Interior Department will make in the coming week that will affect the state’s oil and gas production. The department will also put part of the Arctic Ocean off limits to drilling as part of a five-year leasing plan it will issue this week and is considering whether to impose additional limits on oil and gas production in parts of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.

Just as America begins to reap the rewards of increased energy production, Obama wants to limit it – the name of nature. Meanwhile, caribou frolic next to the warmth of the Alaska Pipeline, Prudhoe Bayhas fully recovered from the oil spill there (and lessons have been learned minimizing future tanker accidents).   (my emphasis)

$6.2 Billion for Ebolacare. You Never Want a Serious Emergency to Go to Waste.

Posted on December 11th, 2014

Obama Press Conference in Regards to EbolaEDITOR’S COMMENT: Could this spending plan (giveaway) be another example of Obama’s ‘reparations’ to the third world for all the wrongs that he apparently believes the United States has committed over the years? Clearly, his requested amount of $6.2 billion is grossly excessive, and is also a ‘made-up’ figure, as the administration cannot detail where and how these funds would actually be spent. SIX TIMES what the UN says it needs to end the current crisis in West Africa! Another excuse for redistributing America’s wealth elsewhere, and likely getting very little in return? Frankly, this smacks of the press releases for Obama’s first “stimulus” package, and we all know how well that turned out!

By Betsy McCaughey

The Obama administration will mount a full-court press to foist its whopping $6.2 billion “emergency” Ebolacare spending plan on taxpayers. That’s $6.2 billion with a “b” — six times what the UN said it needs to end the Ebola crisis in West Africa. The White House is labeling it “emergency” funding. Not so fast. Read the fine print. Most of the money will be going to Africa, but not just to treat Ebola patients or for Ebola research. It’s a typical Obama administration spread-the-wealth scheme kicked up a notch to redistribute American resources to poor countries.

On August 28, the World Health Organization presented a plan to stop Ebola with a $1 billion price tag. The Obama proposal costs more because it would pay for a permanent healthcare infrastructure in African countries — constructing hospitals and laboratories and training healthcare workers and public health officials. That’s a massive transfer of wealth — literally twice the GDP of Liberia.

It is also a radical shift in foreign aid priorities that demands scrutiny. $6.2 billion is twice what we give Israel.

Speaking of priorities, Ebolacare would cost more than what the U.S. spends on all cancer research, even though cancer kills 360,000 Americans a year. Ebolacare would also cost six times what the president allocated to fight superbugs like Staph and C. diff that rage through hospitals in the U.S., killing 23,000 patients a year.

How about the mysterious spread of Enterovirus D 68 to 29 states, where it has killed eleven people, mostly children, and paralyzed another seventy. Where’s the program to investigate that?

Helping Ebola victims is the right thing to do, but $6.2 billion is a whacky number. Obama wants to spend as much on Ebola as on HIV, even though HIV currently kills over 1.5 million people a year in poor countries, 300 times the Ebola toll.

Labeling the request an “emergency” weasels around Congress’s rule that any spending additions have to be offset elsewhere in the federal budget. Taxpayers get clobbered.

They also have every reason to worry their money will disappear down the rat hole of corruption. Liberian officials say that tens of millions of dollars and supplies of medical equipment and food donated by relief organizations routinely go missing. Liberian officials say they often have to buy protective medical gear on the black market at inflated prices after it’s been stolen.

So far, 56 interest groups representing hospitals, EMS responders and local public health officials have submitted testimony asking for a piece of the pie. And no wonder. The Obama administration has told state and local governments and health facilities to prepare for Ebola. Hospitals such as SUNY Upstate at Syracuse University in New York are spending roughly $500,000 each getting ready for Ebola, purchasing personal protective suits at $2,000 a piece, refitting laboratories, training their staff, and conducting Ebola drills. Across the nation, hundreds of hospitals are incurring these costs, and wondering where they are going to get the money.

They shouldn’t count on much. New York State, where ten hospitals are undertaking expensive preparations, has already been told that it will get less than $15 million. Only a tiny, though unspecified portion of the $6.2 billion would be spent here in the U.S.

That will suit Margaret Chan, the director-general of the World Health Organization. On November 3, she blasted capitalist countries for ignoring Ebola for four decades, saying appeals for help had “fallen on deaf ears” because “Ebola has historically been confined to poor African nations.” She adamantly opposes curbs on travel that would keep Ebola inside Africa.

Intentionally or not, Chan seems to revel in the worldwide alarm over the virus because it is a catalyst for shifting resources to Africa. Now, she said, Ebola is “out there with consequences that all the world can see, every day, on prime time TV news.” Obama’s gargantuan proposal is everything Chan wants, and more. But Congress should take a hard look at it, rather than rubber stamping something just because Obama calls it an “emergency.”     (my emphasis)

Barack Bulworth Obama

Posted on November 17th, 2014

4th of You - Lie by A.F. Branco

By Ed Lasky

Last year, President Obama mused “longingly” of “going Bulworth” — a reference to a 1998 Warren Beatty movie where a senator said what he really thinks, without restraint.  What the fictional Senator Bulworth thought, what he pushed for, was socialism.

Barack Obama has a penchant for power.  The next two years will be very challenging for Americans concerned about their nation’s future.

Obama’s goal to exercise power with very few limits has been clear for some time to all but the most obtuse.  In early 2011 he told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of ChinaHe has not changed his views.  After losing control of the House of Representatives, he rejected compromise with Republicans by boasting he has a “pen and a phone” and would circumvent Congress and the Constitution (in other words, staying the course since his inauguration).  While strolling with the visiting French resident at Monticello he “quipped” that “the good thing about being president, I can do whatever I want.”  Jefferson would cringe that America, a nation he helped found, would be led by a man who had so little respect for our founding principles and fathers — and for the American people.

What has followed has been a barrage of executive actions, signing statements, unilateral suspension of laws (Obamacare provisions, in particular), the abuse of prosecutorial discretion to enact a de facto suspension of many aspects of our immigrations laws, the use of regulations — and the interpretation of the same — to control, nee dictate, many aspects of the lives of Americans.

But we have seen nothing yet.

His anger at losing the House was palpable.  Imagine what will happen now that he lost the Senate.

His rage will know no bounds.

After all, he personalizes politics as no other politician ever has: a toxic combination of his ego and his narcissism.  He was the person who said that while he may not be on the ballot, his policies were.  Earlier in his presidency he had reassured a wavering Democratic Congressman that merely by having Obama in his corner will shield him from repercussions for voting for Obamacare (“this time you’ve got me”)

A rebuke by voters will be a very visible rebuke of him.

And he will respond accordingly because, as he told Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (caught on an open mic-so much for his repeated promises of running “the most transparent administration in history”):

“This is my last election.  After my election, I have more flexibility,”

We can assume the abuse of the Office of the President we have seen so far will just be a warmup for worse to come.  He will flex his power as never before, to impose his agenda on America and fulfill his promise to “fundamentally transform America.”

What can we expect to see in the 26 more months to come in his second term?  The mind boggles.

Barack Obama has tipped his hand already regarding some of his plans.  In a transparent bid (there’s the transparency!) to gin up the Hispanic vote, he has all but declared his intention after the midterms to declare an executive amnesty for the over 10 million illegal immigrants in our nation.  He will protect lawbreakers by failing to enforce immigrations laws — slash the number of deportations and expand the de facto Dream Act he enacted by fiat; he may bring Ebola victims to America for treatment; expand the number of potential terrorist from the Middle East by granting them asylum in America

Paul Sperry writes in the New York Post about “Obama’s post-election plans for a secret radical agenda.”  Among the plans would be the aforementioned amnesty and work permit plans (the State Department has been looking for a vendor to produce 34 million blank green cards and work permits);”affordable housing, loans; the closing of Guantanamo Bay and the transfer of terrorists to American soil — if he does not just release many more of them than he already has to friendlier Muslim lands where they can plan more violence against their own people, as well as Westerners;  and the imposition of his climate change agenda on America-costs, higher energy prices, lost jobs-be damned (imagine many Solyndras to come-monuments to the folly of ideology over science).

Indeed, Obama brought John Podesta into the White House as a top adviser in order to push the climate change agenda throughout America.  Podesta boasted that nothing could derail the Obama administration’s efforts to unilaterally enact policies to fight global warming — that Congress would be, naturally, bypassed.  He has peddled this plan for a while, no doubt a mark in his favor from the power-hungry president who does not work well with others

Podesta authored a report in 2010 outlining ways the president could use his executive authority to push a progressive agenda, including unilateral actions on climate policy.

Clearly, Obama will do whatever is necessary to save Obamacare, trying short-term patches to keep ahead of the news cycle even if it causes long term harm.  Or he may no longer even care about the media since he will not ever run for reelection.

Barack Obama will use every tool in his kit (hammers, axes, screwdrivers) to “spread the wealth” as he declared his goal to be back in 2008 and has been trying to do ever since then.  Now he can go into overdrive.  Among those Ways and means will be a full-blown regulatory assault and executive order blitz on businesses and those he has deemed in his infinite wisdom to have “earned enough,” as he said four years ago.

He will try to extend his doleful and pernicious legacy by nominating left-wing federal judges who will have lifetime tenure and be ideally positioned to do his bidding after he has left office.  Since Harry Reid abolished the filibuster in the Senate, Obama has been able to have his nominees  confirmed by the Senate with a great deal of success, since they control the chamber and Reid runs roughshod over everyone else and over long-held traditions that he (and Senator Obama)  said were sacred when Democrats were in the minority.

Obama’s success is most marked in the federal courts of appeals, the intermediate level of the national judicial hierarchy.  When Obama took office, only 1 of the 13 appellate courts had a majority of Democratic appointees.  Now 9 do.

Obama’s number of confirmed appellate nominees—53—only slightly exceeds President George W.  Bush’s six-year total of 51.  But according to a midyear Congressional Research Service report, Obama’s success rate in getting his appellate nominees confirmed is much higher than Bush’s—83.1 to 68.7 percent.  Even more notably, the pace of confirmations has increased dramatically since last November, when Senate Democrats abolished the filibuster for lower-court nominees.

The influence of appellate courts (also known as circuit courts) should not be underestimated.  They decide nearly 60,000 cases each year.  The Supreme Court’s total docket (including cases from state-court systems) contains fewer than 100 cases per year.  So the courts of appeals provide the final word in 99.9 percent of their cases.

The takeover of the U.S.  Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia was a coup for Obama and his allies since that court reviews many cases related to federal law and regulations.  It is also the court that recently played a key role in trying to keep Obamacare on life support.  The Supreme Court will be called upon to examine the legality of governments using the dubious disparate impact standard to bring about massive change throughout America — with no input from the rest of America.

Charles Lipson suggests other blows to come in Obama’s Post-Election Policy Blowout.  These include a decision to kill the Keystone pipeline project and a deal with Iran that will lead to that terror state — with so much American blood on its hands — developing nuclear weaponsHe will also, as has been a veiled threat, turn on Israel even more than he has so far.  This can take the form of letting the jackals at the United Nations run rampant, as well as imposing a Palestinian state on the Israelis — their safety and security pales in comparison to becoming the founding father of Palestine — a boast he can make while noting no other president has been able to accomplish that goal. (Qatar will be happy to fund the future Obama Presidential Library).

Lipson notes these actions, as well as the entire modus operandi, of Barack Obama have constitutional implications:

The problem, as the Founders saw it, is to prevent the president or Congress from acquiring unchecked power, as they will inevitably try to do.  The solution was to divide powers between the executive and the legislature and hope that they would be constrained by countervailing institutional interests.  But Harry Reid is a “party man,” not a “Senate man.”

Liberal Law professor Jonathan Turley has made similar arguments about the entire nature of the Obama presidency: Obama “has become the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid.”   Truer words have rarely been spoken.

This was why it is imperative to cleanse the Congress as much as possible of Democrats who do Obama’s bidding — that will open a lot of spots.  Barack Obama has rammed too much through with the connivance of the devious Harry Reid (who lately has been stoking racism to turn up black turnout) and the Democratic enablers who have empowered him.

Skeptics may ask: what can the Republicans do in the Senate? Fair question; no doubt there is a lot of dissatisfaction with Republicans and not an inconsiderable amount of it has been earned over the years.

But, last I checked, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Mike Lee and other stars of the Tea Party still consider themselves Republicans.  The more Republicans in Congress the more empowered they will become.

A GOP Senate can deny confirmation of Obama’s nominees to a wide range of positions, not just judges, also cabinet positions, and ambassadors. And the Senate can use their power to kill treaties he has signed with other nations.

Republicans can use the power of the purse to help control Obama.  Our military can be restored.  We can be respected again throughout the world, instead of held in contempt by our adversaries.  We can disable as much of the onerous ObamaCare as can be done by controlling the budget.  Tax rates can be fairer and be used to promote growth instead of being seen as a honey pot to spread the wealth.  Cheap energy prices through the opening of federal lands for exploration.  Podesta may tout the ability to circumvent Congress but budgets and well-drafted laws can put a halt to Obama’s end run around the Constitution and the American people.

They can exercise oversight as Congressman Darrell Issa and others have in the House.  Imagine the spectacle as Obama’s minions have to trudge over to both sides of the Capitol to explain their actions.  The House has been passing some bills that comport reasonably well with conservatives but Harry Reid has killed them in the Senate (it has been a do-nothing Senate, not a do-nothing Congress).  Reid has protected Obama and also Democratic Senators from having to cast votes that will reveal their true loyalties.  That shield will be stripped from covering them.  Bills should be passed as they used to be: with very detailed specificity so Obama and the bureaucratic fiefdom under his control will not have space or power to “interpret” rules as they wish.

Obama aspires to have as much power as he can so he can fulfill at least one promise “to fundamentally transform America.”  He has had an imperial presidency for six years.  It is time to end.  His response when cornered will be to vent even more rage — and if he becomes incendiary, enough people will not be looking favorably on any Democrats (including Hillary Clinton) who may want to succeed him.  His true nature will be shown as he tries to defy the American people.

Benjamin Franklin could not have said it better.  When asked what type of government America would have at the end of the Revolutionary War and after the toil of creating our Constitution “Well, Doctor, what he we got a Republic or a Monarchy?”

Franklin answered in words that have echoed through the ages, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”

Can we?     (my emphasis)

BioShield: Obama Diverted Funds from Its Fight Against Ebola, Other Threats

Posted on November 12th, 2014

Ebola czar by Eric Allie,

By Melissa Quinn

Seeking a more robust defense in the event of a bioterrorist attack on the United States, the Bush administration created a $6 billion fund to prepare the nation for such threats, including the deadly Ebola virus.

The Obama administration, however, has not used the range of tools and budget provided by the post-9/11 project, focusing instead on only three targets and diverting at least $1 billion to other priorities, a review by The Daily Signal found.

Nearly five years ago, in fact, the administration’s own biodefense science board warned that project funds “should not be diverted to support other initiatives, regardless of the merit of other purposes.”

Repeated diversions of funds “raise doubts about the intention of the U.S. government to consistently fund the enterprise,” the science board adds.

The government’s use of money from the program, Project BioShield, for other purposes also comes under question in a recent report prepared for Congress.

Oversight from lawmakers could help ensure the money is spent “in a manner consistent with congressional intent,” the report says.

Of $3.3 billion budgeted under Project BioShield over the past decade for medical countermeasures to Ebola and a dozen other “material threats” identified by the Department of Homeland Security, fully 90 percent — $3 billion — went to address only three: anthrax, smallpox and botulism.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. government put safeguards in place to protect the country from terrorists using chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons.

This is the story of Project BioShield. Just one key initiative within the Department of Health and Human Services, the project had Ebola — among other sources of  bioterrorism — in its sights for more than four years under President George W. Bush.

In September 2006, then-Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff called Ebola a “material threat against the United States population sufficient to affect national security.”

But the Obama administration decided to take Ebola off Project BioShield’s hit list even after President Barack Obama singled out the virus in his second official State of the Union address.

Products currently in development to combat Ebola are in early stages and thus cannot be funded through Project BioShield, an HHS spokeswoman told The Daily Signal.

No one could have predicted in 2010, perhaps, that more than 4,500 would die so far as a result of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa — or that four people would become infected in the U.S.

However, officials in both the Bush and Obama administrations clearly saw the potential threat in the deadly virus.

Creation of Project BioShield

In the wake of 9/11, Vice President Dick Cheney pushed for additional measures to protect the United States from bioterrorism.

Addressing his concerns, Congress passed a measure creating Project BioShield, an initiative spearheaded by Cheney. It allocated $5.6 billion to buy, develop and store drugs for use in the event of a bioterrorist attack.

The law creating Project BioShield allowed the government to purchase vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics already in the advanced development phase.

It also gave the National Institutes of Health, specifically the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the authority to speed up and simplify the awarding of grants and contracts for developing medical countermeasures against bioterrorism.

Providing financial backing for research and development toward an Ebola vaccine doesn’t fall to one federal agency. Many agencies are in the fight against the virus, and those within HHS include the National Institutes of Health.

Both NIH and the Department of Defense have been instrumental in advancing Ebola treatments that now are in advanced stages and being used to care for infected Americans.

As part of Project BioShield, the fledgling Department of Homeland Security created during the Bush administration identified 13 material threats that were to be the focus of countermeasures. One of them was Ebola.

Pharmaceutical companies previously had little incentive to develop vaccines and therapeutics for viruses such as Ebola. Historically, Ebola specifically had killed far fewer people — roughly 1,500 since the disease’s discovery in 1976 — than it has in the current outbreak in West Africa.

Cheney’s Project BioShield, though, gave companies a financial incentive to get going and guaranteed them a customer: the U.S. government.

“While not ‘perfect’ protection, BioShield is the best program [of its type] America has,” Steven Bucci, a national security and foreign policy expert at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal.

Bucci, a top Defense Department official during the Bush administration, added:

It provides a layer of defense that should improve every day it is deployed and as we learn more. If it is left fallow, that layer of defense will not improve, and we will become more vulnerable every day.

From 2004 to 2013, funding for Project BioShield was about $560 million a year. When the original 10-year funding designation expired, Congress passed a measure — the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act of 2013 — that authorized up to $2.8 billion for BioShield from 2014 to 2018.

In the year since the original 10-year appropriation expired, Obama has sought significantly less than the original authorized annual funding. He requested $250 million for fiscal 2014 and $415 million for fiscal 2015.

In the first 10 years, Congress opted to rescind or transfer approximately $2.3 billion that had been designated for countermeasures to agents of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear terrorism.

Congress rescinded $25 million from Project Bioshield, according to a June report from the Congressional Research Service.  The lawmakers transferred $137 million for influenza preparedness and another $304 million for basic research on biodefense and emerging infectious diseases (including Ebola) at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of NIH.

The report said the lawmakers also transferred $1.8 billion to the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, or BARDA, the sub-agency of HHS that oversees Project BioShield contracts.

Over the years, Project BioShield provided roughly $3.3 billion to acquire medical countermeasures against material threats such as Ebola.

The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act, passed last year by Congress, re-upped funding for Project BioShield through 2018. It also gave authority to the HHS secretary to move up to half of that four-year funding, or $1.4 billion, to BARDA in a single year.

In the Congressional Research Service report examining related issues, science and technology policy specialist Frank Gottron questions the government’s use of BioShield funds for other purposes.

“Congressional oversight of such transfers could help ensure that HHS uses Project BioShield appropriations in a manner consistent with congressional intent,” Gottron writes.

Project BioShield and the Bush Administration

From its creation in 2004 until President Bush’s departure from office in January 2009, Project BioShield’s authority was the basis for research and development of several Ebola treatments.

A review of HHS annual reports turns up multiple grants awarded to companies specifically to research Ebola.

From 2004 to 2006, under BioShield authorities, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded more than $1.8 million in grants to Apath LLC and Oncovir Inc. to develop antiviral drugs for Ebola infection and advance early treatment of the virus, respectively.

Asked about these two projects, HHS spokeswoman Elleen Kane told The Daily Signal that funding may have been discontinued, since subsequent reports did not mention them. Kane directed inquiries to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which did not respond.

Chertoff’s designation of Ebola as a national security threat eight years ago was the basis for a declaration from HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell three months ago authorizing use of in-vitro diagnostic tests to help detect the virus.

In its annual report for 2007-08, HHS stated it had invited proposals for development of an Ebola vaccine, a request made possible by Project BioShield.

Similarly, an experimental Ebola vaccine from Johnson & Johnson benefited from BioShield backing. In 2008, NIH awarded a grant worth about $30 million to a biopharmaceutical company called Crucell, which Johnson & Johnson later purchased.

According to Crucell’s website, Project BioShield was part of the rationale for developing a vaccine.

Project BioShield and BARDA

The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, the agency within HHS that oversees Project BioShield, was created in 2006 under President Bush.

With its attachment to  BARDA, the balance of BioShield’s 10 years of advanced appropriations became known as the Special Reserve Fund.

BARDA sought to “facilitate the research, development, and acquisition of medical countermeasures for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agents …,” the agency’s draft strategic plan states. It continues:

With NIH basic research and development programs, the newly established BARDA advanced development funding mechanisms, the acquisition support available through the Project BioShield Special Reserve Fund, DSNS assets [a reference to the Centers for Disease Control’s Division of Strategic National Stockpile], and appropriations for pandemic influenza countermeasures, HHS now has a comprehensive, end-to-end capability to facilitate the successful advanced development, procurement, and availability of medical countermeasures to increase public health preparedness for responding to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats and emerging infectious diseases, including pandemic influenza.

BARDA’s first strategic plan did not outline plans to combat Ebola.

In the agency’s 2011-16 strategic plan, however, BARDA Director Robin Robinson specifies Ebola as an emerging threat. Robinson, appointed in 2008, outlines a goal to develop capabilities to “address novel and emerging threats.”

The report says:

The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act charges BARDA with the advanced development of medical countermeasures for emerging infectious disease threats, which come in many forms. New and lethal infectious diseases, such as MRSA, Dengue, Ebola, SARS, and Nipah virus, continue to emerge in nature.

Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., was and continues to be a vocal proponent of BARDA and Project Bioshield. Of the role the authority plays in protecting America, Burr told The Daily Signal:

This [Ebola] outbreak reminds us of the human toll the threats we face can take and why we must fully leverage all of the tools at our disposal to quickly advance the medical countermeasures we need to protect the American people. … Congress put in place critical tools, which we must fully implement and leverage if we are going to be prepared for the full range of threats we may face.

Project BioShield and the Obama Administration

In his 2010 State of the Union address, after a year in office, President Obama announced an initiative to “give us the capacity to respond faster and more effectively to bioterrorism or an infectious disease — a plan that will counter threats at home and strengthen public health abroad.”

Two months later, HHS’s National Biodefense Science Board evaluated a relevant interagency group and made recommendations. The interagency group, called the Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise, oversees BioShield and other efforts to address the government’s need for measures to protect America from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.

In its March 2010 report, the National Biodefense Science Board called for reauthorization of BioShield, specifying that it should be “adequately funded.”  The science board said the “funds should not be diverted to support other initiatives, regardless of the merit of other purposes.”

The report goes on to list instances where BioShield money was diverted to other projects in 2009 and 2010, the first two years of the Obama administration. It says:

Setting aside the merits of other funding targets, repeated diversions of the Special Reserve Fund raise doubts about the intention of the U.S. government to consistently fund the [medical countermeasures] enterprise over multiple years. Transfers from the [fund] to other entities must be avoided if industry confidence in the U.S. government as a partner is to be fostered.

Congress did allocate more funding to Project BioShield — $2.8 billion through 2018 — but the Obama administration and lawmakers continue to divert money for other purposes, some unrelated to the mission. The Congressional Research Service addressed that concern in its June report on BioShield to Congress.

Five months after the science board’s recommendations, in August 2010, then-HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius delivered a speech marking release of an HHS examination of the Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise, the interagency group.

Sebelius announced a plan creating, among other things, a “strategic investment fund” for new countermeasure technologies.

Joined by Anthony Fauci, director of NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Robinson, the BARDA director, Sebelius specifically addressed the government’s increased focus on medical countermeasures.

She cited a potential Ebola outbreak as cause for due diligence in developing such measures:

Right now, there’s little incentive for private companies to produce medical countermeasures for rare conditions, like Ebola virus or exposure to non-medical radiation. And yet, in the event of an Ebola outbreak or nuclear explosion, these countermeasures would be critical.

The goal of the HHS plan, Sebelius said, was to “add more life-saving products to the pipeline, enabling critical programs like BioShield to work the way they are supposed to.”

According to HHS annual reports on Project BioShield, however, the Obama administration hasn’t used any of the initiative’s funds to back grants for development of an Ebola vaccine.

In fact, in its June report, the Congressional Research Service points to “countermeasure prioritization” as an issue for Congress to consider.

“The Project BioShield contracts have not been used to acquire countermeasures against all of the material threats determined by DHS,” the report says, referring to the Department of Homeland Security.

Of the total $3.3 billion budgeted for medical countermeasures from 2004 to 2014, 90 percent, or $3 billion, went to address just three threats: anthrax, smallpox and botulinum (which can cause botulism).

No countermeasures funding went to the remaining 11 chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats identified by the Department of Homeland Security, including Ebola.

“It does not matter if the threatening pathogen is a natural one like Ebola is today, or a weaponized one from some former Soviet scientist, we need to constantly upgrade our defenses,” Heritage’s Bucci said. “Failing to make that investment is just wrong.”

In September and October, though, the Obama administration did authorize funding under BARDA to develop two Ebola vaccines as the outbreak spread throughout West Africa and four people in the U.S. were diagnosed with the disease.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa underscores how medical and public health preparedness and response programs, especially BARDA’s medical countermeasure work, are a matter of national security,” Burr said. “It’s not enough to prioritize this work only in the matter of crisis.”    (my emphasis)

Democrats defeated Obama by Gary McCoy, Cagle Cartoons

By Wayne Allyn Root

I was the first political commentator in the country to predict a GOP landslide in today’s Congressional elections. I made the prediction at Fox News.

The million dollar question is “why?”

In my previous commentaries I explained that the root of Obama’s election day debacle were the twin disasters of Obamacare and Ebola. Millions of Americans have either seen their health insurance cancelled, or gotten dramatic premium price increases. These are the angry, intense, motivated voters of the 2014 midterm elections. Obamacare is no longer a theory. It has affected millions of middle class Americans in a negative way.

Then there’s Ebola. Obama’s response to this potential deadly pandemic has ranged from inept and incompetent, to downright dangerous. It’s clear this president is not keeping our children safe at night.

Now throw in our open Southern border, Obama’s failure to foresee the rise of ISIS, his lack of a coherent strategy to fight ISIS and this jobless economy and anyone but a Washington DC insider can clearly see a Democratic Party disaster in today’s election.

But the reality is that elections aren’t won or lost just based on issues. Elections are won based on “the ground game.” It’s not who supports a candidate or party that matters…it’s who brings the most voters to the polls. Back in 2012 Obama put together the most sophisticated “ground game” to get out the Democratic vote in the history of American politics.

The GOP failed miserably at the same “ground game.” The GOP actually had no ground game. Their new “get out the vote” system (named ORCA) bombed on the morning of the national election- meaning the GOP never turned out a single vote. The failure of the GOP vote tracking system changed the outcome of the entire presidential election. Having no idea if your most loyal voters have gone to the polls or not, is like flying a plane blind.

Fast forward to today. Three things have changed- all in favor of the GOP. These are the real reasons for yesterday’s GOP landslide:

*First, the GOP is now for the first time effectively competing with the Obama machine in the “ground game.” The GOP turn out the vote machine is so effective this time around that the GOP leads across the country in early voting in places where Republicans often lose by large percentages. This is very good news. As a matter of fact it has never happened before.

*Second, there are Voter ID laws in place in fifteen states where none existed in 2012. Not only are Democrats great at getting out the vote, they are even better at getting out fraudulent voters. Voter ID prevents election fraud. That is very bad news for Obama and his allies.

*Third, there was a “backstop” in place if the GOP failed to win the six U.S. Senate seats it needed. Because of tight races there could be runoffs in Louisiana and Georgia (if the winning GOP candidate doesn’t reach the 50% threshold). But Obama and the Democrats have a big problem in these runoffs. Obama pushed back the date for open enrollment in Obamacare from October 15th to November 15th just to avoid damaging Democratic candidates in today’s election. But Obama’s plan backfired. Because of this cynical delay, millions of Americans will be either getting cancellation notices or seeing massive price increases for the first time in the days after the election. But that “sticker shock” will guarantee the voters of Georgia and Louisiana would vote overwhelmingly Republican in December or January runoffs. This is “the GOP backstop.”

Ironically Obama’s signature (and only) achievement of his six years as President will guarantee a GOP takeover of the U.S. Senate.

Yesterday will usher in a dramatic rebuke to President Obama and a dramatic change in political power in Washington DC. The question is what will the GOP do with it?

Will they repeal Obamacare in order to save the economy from a meltdown? Will they cut government spending to avoid a Greece-like debt crisis? Will they audit the Fed? Will they conduct criminal hearings and punish those involved in the outrageous IRS scandal? Will they dramatically lower the highest corporate tax rates in the world, thereby bringing jobs back to America? Will they put a stop to NSA snooping on the communications of ordinary Americans? Will they seal the border? Will they force Obama top finally ban flights from the Ebola Zone and quarantine travelers from Ebola countries? Will they stop Obama from ordering a “blanket amnesty” for millions of illegal immigrants? Will they force Obama to develop a gameplan to defeat ISIS?

The answers to these questions will determine the future of American politics. The GOP has been handed “the golden ticket.” They now have that rare second chance in politics. The ball is in their court. They can ensure that Barack Obama has singlehandedly destroyed the Democratic Party for a generation. But only if the GOP is bold enough to carry out the agenda above, and fight Obama’s continued destruction of America with passion, fire and brimstone. If the GOP is too cowardly to pursue the agenda above, or too fearful of how the mainstream media will react, then the GOP landslide of 2014 is nothing more than a fluke and “last gasp” amidst a long term Democratic ascendency.    (my emphasis)

Progressives in the Dock. Why America Has Soured on Obama.

Posted on November 4th, 2014

Costume Ball Tricked Obama

By Jeffrey Lord

As always, the progressive utopia sounds just ducky. Utopia arrives. And then…shocker!…it doesn’t work. Now? Americans have soured on President Obama — and progressives are in the dock.

One poll after another says Americans are a pretty unhappy lot this election year, and are set Tuesday to deliver a smackdown of some considerable size to the president’s party. But why? Let’s review, beginning with this famous passage from Obama’s speech the night in 2008 that he clinched the Democratic nomination:

America, this is our moment. This is our time. Our time to turn the page on the policies of the past. Our time to bring new energy and new ideas to the challenges we face. Our time to offer a new direction for the country we love.

The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. This was the moment—this was the time—when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our highest ideals. Thank you, God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.

Well. How has this worked out? Let’s go through ten events from the last six years:

1. Obamacare: After failing to get 60 votes in the Senate to pass a government takeover of the health care system, the progressives resorted to a parliamentary ruse and passed it in a budget reconciliation bill. Obamacare became the law of the land. And the results? Millions of Americans in the individual insurance market had their plans canceled, and costs are skyrocketing. As noted in U.S. News and World Report just last month, “if you like your plan you still can’t keep it”:

There’s a bizarre reason why millions of Americans saw their health insurance plans cancelled in 2013 — and as explained in a new video put out by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, millions more will lose their plans in years to come.

Insurance coverage for Americans will remain in permanent turmoil because the Affordable Care Act requires all plans to fit within four cookie-cutter designs called “metallic tiers.” (The tiers — bronze, silver, gold and platinum — refer to the percentage of medical expenses a particular plan pays.) The video also notes that families may have to change plans repeatedly because, as circumstances change, a plan that fits within a tier one year may not fit in any tier a later year.

2. Immigration: Last week two California sheriff’s deputies were shot to death by an illegal immigrant who had previously been deported — twice. In a Mexican jail sits Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi, imprisoned for months for making a wrong turn into Mexico. Illegal immigrants continue to pour across a virtually unguarded open border, and thousands of children who here illegally were distributed throughout the country. The president is potentially poised, according to the head of the union for border patrol agents, to issue an executive order granting amnesty to millions of illegals.

3. The IRS: Congressional investigations have revealed that IRS official Lois Lerner — who has pleaded the Fifth Amendment — was spearheading an IRS effort to attack and harass conservative Tea Party groups and their organizers. Now comes the revelation that the IRS has been confiscating the bank accounts of small businesses with no evidence of a crime having been committed under civil asset forfeiture laws.

4. Veterans Administration: As widely reported — here at CNN — as many as 1,000 veterans may have died from receiving bad care, no care, or late care in the hopelessly bureaucratic VA. Reports CNN:

The report aggregates government investigations and media reports to trace a history of fraudulent scheduling practices, budget mismanagement, insufficient oversight and lack of accountability that have led to the current controversy plaguing the VA.

The VA has admitted that 23 patients have died because of delayed care in recent years, but the report, titled “Friendly Fire: Death, Delay, and Dismay at the VA,” shows many more patient deaths have been linked to systemic issues affecting VA hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S.

5. Stimulus: As always with progressives, the solution to all things economic is more government spending. Thus the $800 billion “stimulus” — aka the “The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.” As noted in the New York Post in 2012 by Michael Grabell, a reporter for ProPublica and author of Money Well Spent? The Truth Behind the Trillion-Dollar Stimulus, the Biggest Economic Recovery Plan in History:

[T]he stimulus ultimately failed to do what America expected it to do — bring about a strong, sustainable recovery. The drop kick was shanked.

The stimulus was supposed to work like this: First, a flood of money in tax cuts, food stamps and unemployment checks would get consumers spending. A deluge of education and health-care money would stanch the bleeding in state budgets.

Then, a wave of “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects would kick in, creating new jobs repaving roads and making homes more energy efficient. As the economy got churning again, new investments in wind farms, solar panel factories, electric cars, broadband and high-speed rail would lead America out of the recession and into a 21st century economy competitive with the rest of the world.

But it didn’t happen like that.

6. The National Debt: When President Obama was sworn in — after a campaign in which he attacked George Bush as “unpatriotic” and “irresponsible” for adding $4 trillion to the debt in eight years — the nation’s debt stood at $10,626,877,048,913.08. As reported by CNS news: “As of Jan. 31, 2014, the latest day reported, the debt was $17,293,019,654,983.61an increase of $6,666,142,606,070.53 since Obama’s first inauguration.” No word on whether the Obama White House considers this “unpatriotic” or “irresponsible.”

7. Jobs: The October jobs report from the Department of Labor showed the lowest labor participation rate since 1978. When, not coincidentally, Jimmy Carter’s progressive economics held the nation in its grips.

8. Ebola: On September 16, 2014, President Obama told the nation:

First and foremost, I want the American people to know that our experts, here at the CDC and across our government, agree that the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low. We’ve been taking the necessary precautions, including working with countries in West Africa to increase screening at airports so that someone with the virus doesn’t get on a plane for the United States. In the unlikely event that someone with Ebola does reach our shores, we’ve taken new measures so that we’re prepared here at home. We’re working to help flight crews identify people who are sick, and more labs across our country now have the capacity to quickly test for the virus. We’re working with hospitals to make sure that they are prepared, and to ensure that our doctors, our nurses and our medical staff are trained, are ready, and are able to deal with a possible case safely.

Not a word of this turned out to be true.

9. ISIS: Obama Secretary of Defense and ex-CIA Director Leon Panetta says the President rejected the advice of his national security team to deal quickly with the Islamic State — ISIS. As noted here in the Daily Mail:

Obama now stands widely accused of standing by while ISIS, the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, established a base of operations in eastern Syria and threatened to overthrow Assad, while simultaneously marching across more than half of Iraq.

10. Iraq: Panetta also said Obama ignored advice from his military advisers to leave a sizable bloc of U.S. troops in Iraq to prevent exactly what has now occurred — the appearance of Islamic fundamentalists intent on setting up an Islamic state.

There’s more here. The Fast and Furious gun running scandal that wound up taking the life of U.S. Border Patrol officer Brian Terry. The refusal to confront the reality of Islamic radicalism, terming the mass shootings of Major Nidal Hassan at Ft. Hood as “work place violence” and renaming the war on terror a “overseas contingency operation.” The repeated playing of the race card, from refusing to investigate the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation to making it difficult for the Hispanic George Zimmerman to receive a fair trial in the Trayvon Martin case or playing to the race-baiting Al Sharpton. And don’t forget the “red line” in Syria. Or the Ukraine, where Vladimir Putin ignored Obama’s warnings that “The United States will stand with the international community in affirming that there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine.” Putin invaded the Crimea and is still there. All of this before we get to climate change, the EPA and the “war on coal” — not to mention the bogus “war on women.”

The latest national experiment with progressivism has been tried — again — and it has produced the inevitable failures. The president’s ratings are in the toilet, Democrats across the country have so soured on him they are fleeing any identification with him as if he were Ebola personified, some refusing to even say they once voted for the man.

But this next election will be about much more than the persona of Barack Obama. It will be a verdict on the progressive experiment. Are Americans getting it yet? Do they understand the connection between progressive beliefs and the rise in their health care costs and the loss of their insurance policies? Do they understand why exactly so many millions of Americans are not participating in the economy? Or what happens when you waste $800 billion and raise the debt by over $6 trillion?

Come this Tuesday, to borrow a legal expression, Barack Obama and the policies of the progressive movement are in the dock. The results of those policies are in. What’s the verdict? Stay tuned.

White House Blame Game ‘a Shootout in a Lifeboat’

Posted on November 4th, 2014

Obama and Democrats by John Cole, The Scranton Times-Tribune

By Thomas Lifson

As the presidency of Barack Obama collapses into a mire of crises, from Ebola to ISIS, New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin has penned a column that captures the mood in the White House and the country at large. It’s the read of the day. Samples:

The extraordinary pile-up of crises has turned the usual White House blame game into something more lethal: a shootout in a lifeboat. The presidency is sinking, but we are expected to believe that only the president is blameless.

It won’t wash. The problems cannot be fixed by firing one or two members of the president’s team, or all of them. Something else, something more fundamental, is happening.

Obamaism, a quasi-socialist commitment to a more powerful government at home and an abdication of American leadership around the world, is being exposed as a historic calamity.

We are witnessing the total collapse of a bad idea. Obamaism, is being exposed as a historic calamity. It is fueling domestic fear and global disorder and may well lead to a world war.

Call it bad luck, karma, or divine retribution for the blasphemy of claiming god-like powers to control the seas, all this is happening just as voters get the opportunity to speak:

If there is a smidgen of a silver lining, it is that the unraveling, complete with Obama’s shameless attempts to duck responsibility, is playing out on the eve of the midterm elections. Fortunately, voters seem ready to respond by giving Republicans control of both houses of congress.

I second that emotion, and not just because Obama is a failure. For all his narcissism, he didn’t make this mess alone.

He was aided and abetted by every Democrat in Congress. They marched in lockstep with his cockamamie policies, from ObamaCare to open borders. They protected corrupt leaders in numerous federal agencies, from the IRS to the General Services Administration. They stymied efforts to find the truth about Benghazi and the Fast and Furious gunrunning debacle.

And now they must be punished. All of them.

Obama: They Still Don’t Get Who He Is

Posted on November 3rd, 2014

Obama’s Ebola Policy by Gary McCoy, Cagle Cartoons

By Lloyd Marcus

Over twenty nations and counting have a travel ban to stop the spread of Ebola. Senators, Congressmen, radio talk show hosts and assorted pundits on both sides of the aisle are clamoring for President Obama to implement a travel ban from Ebola hot zone countries. Stopping potential Ebola carriers from entering our country is only common sense.

I chuckled upon hearing Bill O’Reilly say that when one more American is reported to be infected, Obama will surely implement a travel ban. Even after six years, Mr. O’Reilly is still credulous about who Obama truly is.

Remember the programmed cyborg assassin played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator movies? Think of Obama as a cyborg programmed by socialist/progressives, unfeeling, relentless and laser focused on his mission to transform America as founded and dethrone her.

And nothing, I repeat, nothing, including American lives, will deter this machine from fulfilling its mission.

Consequently, Obama’s programming prohibits any possibility of him banning flights from the Ebola hot zone, no matter how many Americans are infected. Fundamentally transforming America as founded requires open borders and granting amnesty to several millions of unskilled needy illegals.

Eventually, illegals will be granted amnesty and the right to vote. Then, the Democrats’ insidious deception will begin; convincing the new faux Americans that they are victims of racist white rich Republicans. Step two is to seduce/addict them to government handouts. The Step three is a promise to keep their supposed evil Republican Nemesis at bay. And presto, millions of new Democrat voters.

As I stated, open borders are crucial to Obama’s termination of America as founded. A travel ban would concede the point that his y’all-come immigration policy is catastrophically dangerous. Gangs, drug dealers, murderers and carriers of contagious diseases that are infecting our kids in schools are flowing across our southern border daily at will.

No way could an American president be so cold and calculating regarding the safety of his people, right? All one has to do is simply review Obama and his enforcer’s behavior over the past six years.

Regular folks like you and me would be embarrassed if caught in a lie or compromising position. Not this bunch. Every time Obama or one of his enforcers have gotten caught in a scandal, an obvious lie or defending an outrageous policy, they double down. They look down their noses incensed that anyone would dare challenge them. They engage in even more outrageous scandalous behavior, tell even bigger lies and more vehemently attack their accusers.

For example, while in the midst of congressional hearings regarding the IRS targeting tea party groups, the IRS continued its illegal harassment of tea party groups. Folks, this is arrogance beyond the pale. Who are these people?

Our robotic terminator of America takes a screw-you, in-your-face double-down approach to every issue.

Military experts say it is preposterous for Obama to deploy our troops (4000) to the Ebola hot zone to do a job for which they are not qualified. Our troops are not social workers or construction workers. Obama does not care. Remember the Famous 1960s photo of an anti-war protester placing a flower in the barrel of a soldier’s rifle? I have an image in my mind of Obama doing the same thing to the rifles of our military.

1960s photo of an anti-war protester placing a flower in the barrel of a soldier's rifle

Obama has much compassion for folks outside of America while displaying a cold callous disregard for U.S. citizens and the brave young men and women who serve in our military. It breaks my heart that Obama deems our troops acceptable collateral damage, sending them to the Ebola hot zone to fulfill his flower-child fantasy of what the military should be.

Unswayed by public outcry, Obama has doubled down on his misuse of our military. He signed an Executive Order for 500 National Guard troops to go to Ebola land.

Think about that folks. These guys signed up as weekend warriors to defend and protect our homeland, the National Guard. Obama has chosen to make them his “International Guard” — taking them from their jobs, businesses, communities and families to use as political pawns for his agenda.

Without apology, Obama told the biggest whooper in presidential history 29 times. If you like your doctor and health care plan you can keep them. Doubling down, this guy continues to lie through his teeth, claiming that Obamacare is extremely successful and folks are lovin’ it. Is he insane? No. Obama is a cold hardhearted cyborg laser-focused on his mission. Obamacare has been a nightmare for millions and the individual mandate has not even kicked in yet. Meanwhile, the MSM smiles and nods in agreement with Obama.

Here are more examples of our cyborg prez in action.

From the attack on our U.S. mission in Benghazi, the Ft. Hood terrorist attack, the Boston Marathon bombing terrorist attack, the recent terrorist beheading of a woman on American soil, the IRS scandal, the VA scandal, the NSA scandal, the invasion of our southern border by illegals (wait a moment folks while I catch my breath), the Fast and Furious gun running scandal, the Secret Service prostitution scandal and allowing someone to breach the White House scandal and more. Politics has been the Obama Administration’s sole concern in dealing with each of them.

Obama’s robotic underlings are equally cold and calculating — Josh Earnest, Lois Lerner, Eric Holder, Susan Rice and others all programmed to protect and fulfill Obama’s mission.

Despite Obama’s refusal to relent, the American people will demand and receive a travel ban from Ebola infected countries. It will happen as a result of adult politicians on both sides of the aisle stepping up and going around Obama. You will never hear Obama say he was wrong or that he changed my mind.

Obama is secretly setting the stage for amnesty for over 10 million illegals. While Obama cannot grant citizenship via executive action, but he can grant legal residence. It will take some time for them to be granted legal citizenship. Meanwhile, people can certainly vote illegally.

No, Mr. O’Reilly. The cyborg in the White House will not back down from his decree that the U.S. will not impose a travel ban from Ebola infected countries, no matter how many Americans get sick and die. God help us.    (my emphasis)

Disease and Obama

Halloween Obama by Larry Wright,

By Eileen F. Toplansky

When the Islamic jihadists struck on 9-11, it was clear that one of their main aims was to destroy the economic success that characterized American exceptionalism.  To that end, the airline industry was very adversely affected.   Thus:

… directly after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, the federal government closed airports, canceling thousands of flights at a direct cost to airlines. However, even when the airports reopened, passengers were wary of air travel, and airlines experienced at least a 30 percent reduction in demand during the initial shock period immediately following the reopening. In addition, business travel accounts for one of the most profitable segments in the airline business, and after the attacks, a significant number of businesses temporarily suspended non-essential travel for their employees.

Now fast-forward to 2014, and once again the airline industry will be financially damaged, thanks directly to Obama’s executive orders and obdurate stance on not keeping deadly diseases at bay.

With the busiest travel season a mere month away, one could hazard a guess that many Americans are rethinking their travel plans and will not wish to travel over Thanksgiving.  How ironic that the holiday of thanks has been put at risk from our socialist president.  Listen to this YouTube 2011 interview of Allen West, particularly at point 6:15, where West calls Obama out on his never-ending harmful economic policies.  Yet it is apparent that Obama never swerves off his course to hurt the country.

The Centers for Disease Control directives change daily.  The idea that one is safe if three feet away from an infected individual ignores the fact that seats on airplanes are not three feet away from one another.  If someone is harboring the Ebola virus, it is not hard to fathom why people would shy away from using airplanes or, for that matter, any form of public transportation.

Thus, with commonsense recommendations being thwarted, we have a slowly emerging risk of enormous consequences.  John Hayward writes:

[W]hile city and federal authorities assure us the system is working, it very obviously is not, because the ‘enhanced screening’ for travelers arriving from West Africa involves testing body temperatures at the airport, and [Dr.] Spencer passed that test with flying colors.  Trusting him to self-isolate didn’t work, either. Nothing worked.  Now we’re just hoping that either his latest screening returned a false positive, or if not, we get lucky and Ebola finds no purchase in a densely-populated city that isn’t exactly the most inhospitable environment for a virus.

While the Ebola story is making the headlines, one must not forget an equally chilling story with far-reaching effects.  Jack Dennis reports that the CDC is admitting that “97  percent of the measles found in the United States this year could be attributed to ‘importations from at least 18 countries.'”  Thus:

… [m]easles, respiratory illness, tuberculosis and other communicable diseases continue as a prime concern for the millions of Americans conflicted about the perpetual arrivals of illegal immigrants pouring into the country. While some diseases have emerged from the Philippines, Africa, Asia and Europe, the unprecedented [number] of undocumented aliens is a major issue.

Emergency rooms are reporting being “overwhelmed beyond capacity.”  Most of these cases are confirmed to be Enterovirus D68.  But in the non-transparent world of Obama and company, this information is hard to obtain.  In Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, measles and Enterovirus D68 are quite common.

If you check the article by Dennis,  you can get a state-by-state linkage “between the infectious diseases and the known immigrant activity.”  In Florida, a county breakdown of how many illegals have entered is depicted.  In Arkansas, both senators, Democrat Mark Pryor and Republican John Boozman, called on Obama “to ban Ebola stricken [people] … in West Africa from traveling to the United States.”

Do you know whom your child or grandchild is sitting next to in his or her classroom?

And one can reasonably expect an increase in disease since, after the November 2014 election, it is quite apparent that Obama “is preparing a sweeping – and unconstitutional  plan to grant de facto citizenship to millions of people now here illegally by giving them green cards.”  That will ultimately result in family members joining them.  We now have a situation of “give me your tired, your hungry… your infected masses,” and we’ll just wing it the best we can, whatever the consequences.

This is so typical of the Obama way as he continues to chip away at the country’s resources and strength.

What better way to burden America and its various institutions than to drop all these people onto the country, thus overwhelming schools, hospitals, neighborhoods, and a myriad of institutions that will not be able to handle the overflow and sudden increase in people?  Perhaps Obama could take time out and watch this piece about “Public Health Service – Disease & Its Control – Immigrants, Ellis Island & Quarantine 1930s.”  The introductory words say it all.

The advice ‘In time of peace prepare for war’ applies to the fight against disease as well as to that against a military enemy.  Disease has destroyed more people than all the wars in history.  Public health workers not only fight epidemics and diseases when they occur, but they must be ever alert and constantly working and devising means to prevent their occurrence.  The protection of the health of the people against the invasion of disease from abroad and the attack and spread within our borders is the purpose … of the far-flung system of disease prevention.

And while Obama claimed he would “deport ‘priority’ immigrants with criminal records, he has fallen short in overall deportations.”  Thus, in 2014, “ICE agents encountered 585,000 potentially deportable immigrants, but released 442,000 of them without ever bothering to even try to deport them.”

And to end the linguistic babble, let’s make this perfectly clear: if someone doesn’t want to be called an illegal alien, then he or she shouldn’t come to the U.S. illegally.  One cannot expect that these illegals will be law-abiding when they broke the law in the first place, thanks to the law-breaker occupant of the White House.

It is a testament to the American people that panic has not ensued.  But the more Obama causes potential harm to this country, the more that people will respond.  Let’s hope that the November elections will begin to put the brakes on the lawless and dangerous actions of this man.  To paraphrase Allen West, it is high time that Americans hold Obama and his actions up to the “same standards they would for a white president.”  It is not merely our economy, our health care, or our way of living that are continually being put at risk; it is quite literally our lives that are imperiled if Obama continues to get his way.
