Watchdog Says EPA Not Vetting Job Candidates

Posted on August 28th, 2015

US EPA LogoEDITOR’S COMMENT: I’m guessing that the EPA’s plan here is to enable them to hire as many environmental zealots and unqualified activists as they can, while the Obama administration is still in charge. Just think of the havoc that these radical fanatics can cause, particularly when the agency’s leadership has been shown to ‘ignore’ some of the existing laws.

The Environmental Protection Agency will hire up to 800 people by the end of summer, so it might concern taxpayers to know that EPA officials don’t thoroughly vet job candidates.

EPA hiring heads didn’t verify employment history or references of any new employees scrutinized by the EPA Office of Inspector General, according to a report released Monday. IG investigators reviewed 25 new-hire files, “none” of which “contained documentation that prior employment or references were verified,” the IG report said.

Perhaps even more problematic, the IG said, is the EPA’s own human resources bulletin doesn’t require staff to run reference or employment history checks. Read More..

Wow! Obama Drives Down Coal Company Stocks, and Soros Buys Them on the Cheap

Posted on August 19th, 2015

What with a question markBy Thomas Lifson

I have always believed that global warming is a gigantic scam, driven by greed and lust for power. Now comes the shocking news, via Steve Milloy writing on Breitbart, that following President Obama’s use of CO2 emissions as a weapon to drive major coal companies near bankruptcy, the ultimate politically connected speculator George Soros is buying up stock in major coal producers on the cheap.

predicted in this column last week that the left wasn’t going to kill off the coal industry so much as it was going to steal it. That prediction is already becoming true courtesy of billionaire George Soros.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Act filings indicate that Soros has purchased an initial 1 million shares of Peabody Energy and 553,200 shares of Arch Coal, the two largest publicly traded U.S. coal companies. As pointed out last week, both companies have been driven perilously close to bankruptcy by the combination of President Obama’s “war on coal” and inexpensive natural gas brought on by the hydrofracturing revolution.

Under the hypothesis that not even socialists would leave trillions of dollars worth of a perfectly safe and clean energy source in the ground for the sake of the imaginary “climate crisis,” I posited that once the existing coal industry ownership was wiped out by President Obama’s regulatory onslaught, a new politically correct ownership would rehabilitate the fuel by contributing to Democrats. Letter to Editor PREDICTED COLORADO EPA SPILL One Week Before Catastrophe So EPA Could Secure Control of Area

Posted on August 17th, 2015

EPA SpillEDITOR’S COMMENTFrankly, I’m not sure and have no way of knowing about the journalistic standards at The Silverton Standard newspaper, but obviously this story was predicted and printed about a week before the accident. When doing my research on this catastrophe, what struck me was that it appears that this mine was lying dormant for decades, and the nearby area around it was being used for fishing and swimming purposes. That is until the EPA got involved, and caused this accident, and now made this area and untold other areas unsafe for outdoor activities.

By Jim Hoft

Last Wednesday, a small EPA-supervised work crew inspecting the Gold King mine accidentally knocked a hole in a waste pit, releasing at least three million gallons of acidic liquid laden with toxic heavy metals.

This letter to editor, posted below, was published in The Silverton Standard and The Miner local newspaper, authored by a retired geologist, one week before EPA mine spill. The letter detailed verbatim, how EPA officials would foul up the Animas River on purpose in order to secure superfund money. If the Gold King mine was declared a superfund site it would essentially kill future development for the mining industry in the area. The Obama EPA is vehemently opposed to mining and development. EPA Treats Own Environmental Catastrophe As Ho-Hum

Colorful Colorado EPA catastrophe from www.caglecartoons.com # 167409By Investor’s Business Daily

The only thing more outrageous than the EPA’s release of three million gallons of toxic waste into Colorado’s Animas River has been its cavalier response to the disaster in the days since.

On Sunday night, EPA regional director Shaun McGrath told a town hall meeting in Colorado that the EPA would “hold ourselves to the same standards that we would anyone that would have created this situation.” Right.

This is an agency that will aggressively fine businesses, municipalities and anyone or anything else for even the slightest violation of its ridiculously strict standards, but that will face zero fines for its own environmental catastrophe.

It’s an agency that claims that even the tiniest levels of pollutants are extremely hazardous, yet has been busy downplaying the damage after its own incompetence caused the release of millions of gallons of toxic waste.

A few hours after the spill, an official EPA statement described it as nothing more than a “pulse” that had “dissipated in about an hour.” Read More..

Gold King Mine Spill Exposes Obama Hypocrisy, Threatens EPA Credibility, Critics Say

Posted on August 12th, 2015

Gold King Mine SpillBy Ben Wolfgang

The political fallout from last week’s toxic spill at Colorado’s Gold King Mine intensified Monday, with critics saying the incident has exposed clear hypocrisy within the Obama administration while threatening the credibility of the Environmental Protection Agency at a crucial moment.

Rather than express outrage as it has done in the wake of previous environmental disasters, the White House would not comment on the spill and instead directed all questions to the embattled EPA.

The agency, meanwhile, remains under intense fire after its contractors accidentally breached a dam at the mine last week and sent toxic sludge flowing into the Animas River. The contaminated water has spread to New Mexico, Arizona and Utah, and EPA officials were forced to concede that more than 3 million gallons were released into the river — a much higher amount than the agency’s initial estimate of 1 million gallons.

Although not comparable in magnitude, the spill in some ways is reminiscent of BP’s 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which famously led President Obama to say he was looking for someone’s “ass to kick” in response and prompted Ken Salazar, the interior secretary at the time, to vow to keep his “boot on the neck” of BP. Climate Scientists Rip Apart EPA’s Global Warming Rule

Obama Clean power plan, EPA from www.caglecartoons.com # 167216By Michael Bastasch

The Obama administration recently unveiled regulations further limiting carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, and some climate scientists are criticizing the rules for doing virtually nothing to reduce global temperature rises — the whole point of reducing CO2.

“Well the one thing you don’t hear President [Barack] Obama mention is how much his proposed emissions reductions will reduce global warming,” wrote Dr. Judith Curry, a climatologist at Georgia Tech. “It has been estimated that the U.S. [climate plan] of 28% emissions reduction by 2025 will prevent 0.03 [degrees Celsius] in warming by 2100.”

“And these estimates assume that climate model projections are correct,” Curry wrote, “if the climate models are over-sensitive to CO2, the amount of warming prevented will be even smaller.”

The EPA’s so-called Clean Power Plan aims to reduce emissions 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. The EPA has touted billions of dollars in public health and nebulous “climate benefits,” but avoids mention of the rule’s impact on global temperatures. Read More..

Industry Rails Against Obama’s New Dishwasher Rules

Posted on August 3rd, 2015

AlertEDITOR’S COMMENT: Don’t forget that these are the same government bureaucrats that required recent changes in your shower heads and toilets that no longer work as efficiently as previously, and may, in many cases, use even more water to be effective. All in the supposed interest of meeting President Obama’s greenhouse gas emissions goals under his Climate Action Plan.

By Timothy Cama

Companies that make dishwashers are warning that the Obama administration’s latest efficiency standards for their industry would backfire.

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers is accusing the Department of Energy (DOE) of a politically motivated drive to increase dishwasher efficiency standards, which are so bad that they would cause consumers to re-wash dishes, erasing any efficiency gains. Read More..

Is a Mini ICE AGE on the Way? Scientists Warn the Sun Will ‘Go to Sleep’ in 2030 and Could Cause Temperatures to Plummet

Posted on July 20th, 2015

Sun image, NASAEDITOR’S COMMENT: I wonder how President Obama and the other global warming alarmists will handle this scientific study. Oh, I guess that they will, at first, deny these results, and, when that doesn’t work, they’ll personally attack the credentials or background of these scientists. The reality, however, appears to be that the earth is in a cycle, where it is getting COLDER NOT WARMER!

By Mark Prigg

The Earth could be headed for a ‘mini ice age’ researchers have warned.

A new study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles – and says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out.

This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the ‘Maunder minimum’ – which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London’s River Thames to freeze over. Read More..

Does EPA’s Supreme Court Loss Doom Obama’s Climate Agenda?

Posted on July 1st, 2015

US EPA LogoEDITOR’S COMMENT: Some very informative and insightful comments about one of President Obama’s pet projects to weaken America by forcing the closing and phase-out of certain power plants.

By Andrew M. Grossman

In a 5-4 decision Monday, the Supreme Court struck down the Obama Administration EPA’s signature “Mercury and Air Toxic Rule,” which regulates emissions by fossil-fuel-fired power plants. Before regulating, EPA was obligated to decide whether regulation under one the Act’s most burdensome programs was “appropriate and necessary.” EPA interpreted that language to preclude it from considering the costs of regulation—some $10 billion per year, in exchange for $4 million or so in direct benefits. That interpretation, the Court decided, was ludicrous.

The decision may well leave the Obama climate agenda in tatters. Why that is requires a bit of explanation. In the usual case when the Court finds a rule to be unlawful, it vacates the offending action—in other words, deprives it of legal force. But that’s not what the Court did here. Instead, it sent the case back down to the D.C. Circuit for further proceedings, knowing full well that that court will follow its usual practice of “remand without vacatur”—in other words, let the agency fix any flaws in its rule while leaving the rule in place.

This is a very big deal. Read More..

EPA’s New Fuel Regulations Will Avert 0.0026 Degrees Of Warming

Posted on June 30th, 2015

WAIMH Red ArrowBy Michael Bastasch

The EPA’s new carbon dioxide regulations for heavy trucks is meant to help the U.S. meet its goal of reducing emissions to fight global warming.

There’s just one problem: CO2 regulations on heavy trucks will have little to no impact on global warming over the next 85 years, according to the EPA’s own analysis.

The EPA says limiting carbon dioxide from heavy trucks will reduce emissions by more than 1 billion metric tons by 2050. Cutting CO2, the agency says, will create up to $34 billion in “climate benefits” along with up to $40 billion from reducing traditional pollutants. Regulating heavy trucks are part of the Obama administration’s goal of reducing U.S. CO2 emissions 80 percent by 2050.

Sounds like Obama administration regulations will accomplish a lot. Well, not really. The EPA’s own analysis found that by 2100 “the global mean temperature is projected to be reduced by approximately 0.0026 to 0.0065°C, and global mean sea level rise is projected to be reduced by approximately 0.023 to 0.057 cm.” Read More..
