Judge: IRS Must Say If White House Sought Taxpayers’ Information

IRS Building SignBy Stephen Dinan

A federal judge Friday ordered the IRS to turn over the records of any requests from the White House seeking taxpayers’ private information from the tax agency, delivering a victory to a group that for two years has been trying to pry the data loose.

It’s not clear that there were any such requests — but Judge Amy Berman Jackson said the IRS cannot just refuse to say so by citing taxpayer confidentiality laws, known as section 6103 of the tax code.

The ruling marks yet another federal judge who has ordered the Obama administration to be more transparent when responding to open-records records. The State Department is facing a barrage of orders from federal judges demanding more cooperation in releasing former Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton’s emails.

White House officials and federal agencies are allowed, under very select circumstances, to ask the IRS for protected information. But the requests must be carefully cleared.

Questions about potential White House meddling in taxpayers’ private information stretch back to the beginning of the Obama administration, when the then-White House chief economist seemed to describe the tax structure of Koch Industries during a briefing with reporters. Read More..

Debt Drama Looms for Congress

Kicking the can debt by Rick McKee, The Augusta Chronicle from www.caglecartoons.com # 138859By Rebecca Shabad and Peter Schroeder

Congress has a long list of unfinished business for the fall, with highway funding, tax break legislation, a budget deal and a spending package all awaiting action.

But it’s the need for an increase in the debt limit that looms largest of all.

The nation is again coming close to hitting the “ceiling” for overall debt, which Congress set at $18.1 trillion in February of 2014.

While the deadline for lifting the limit is uncertain, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew warned last month that the “extraordinary measures” now preventing a debt default could be exhausted by the end of October. Read More..

When Are These People Going to Jail?

IRS lost emails by Nate Beeler, The Columbus DispatchBy Investor’s Business Daily

After a year’s stalling by the IRS, the Senate Finance Committee has released its bipartisan report, denouncing the tax-collection agency’s partisanship and incompetence. When are these people going to jail?

The Senate report wasn’t entirely satisfactory, given that its criticism was primarily in the compromise language of “gross mismanagement” to describe the agency’s targeting of Tea Party dissident groups.

Using legal technicalities to silence and repress political dissent under the color of the nation’s most feared enforcement agency isn’t mismanagement. It’s a crime.

It’s incompatible with democracy and it shatters public confidence in the rule of law. It’s the very crime the State Department is now condemning in Venezuela: the use of legal technicalities to halt popular opposition candidates from running for office. Until now, this kind of activity has had no precedent in our country, and it must be stopped before it becomes the standard. Read More..

More Lerner Emails Destroyed – Just An Accident, Right?

IRS lost emails by Nate Beeler, The Columbus DispatchBy Investor’s Business Daily

The IRS scandal, which enters its 778th day on Friday, continues to canker. Now we learn than as many as 24,000 congressionally subpoenaed emails have been deleted. Someone needs to be held accountable.

In May 2013, Lois Lerner, then director of the IRS’ Exempt Organizations Division, acknowledged that the agency had given especially hard looks at applications for tax-exempt status from groups that had the words “tea party” or “patriot” in their title.

She wouldn’t admit it, but the IRS was passively harassing groups it felt were President Obama’s political opponents and a threat to his 2012 re-election. The inspector general’s report said applications filed by several hundred groups were delayed for a year or more. Some were subjected to demanding questions about their donors and interrogated about their activities.

Since then, the House has voted to hold Lerner in contempt — six Democrats joined every Republican in the vote — Lerner has resigned and Congress has launched a probe into emailgate. Read More..

IRS Admits Refunding Billions On Fake Tax Returns

Posted on June 10th, 2015

WAIMH Red ArrowBy Jim Quinn

Your beloved government drone agency – the IRS – has given $11 billion of your tax dollars to criminals over three years. They make the Obamaphone program look like a well run venture. Everything the government touches turns to shit. The government is incompetent, bureaucratic, ignorant, stupid, evil, and a detriment to our lives. Despite the facts which prove how incompetent they are (Iraq War, Afghan War, Amtrak safety, Obamacare, Medicare, Medicaid, SSDI, $200 trillion of unfunded liabilities) more than half the sheep in this country think the government should be given more power over our lives. What a pathetic country of spineless wimps we have become.

Just hours after being force to admit that they were hacked (by Russians apparently), an inspector general’s report shows that The IRS has rather remarkably continued to pay refunds on hundreds of thousands of fraudulent tax returns in recent years, and sent dozens of checks to the same addresses, including in Eastern Europe and elsewhere. While some progress has been made, $2.3 billion of real US taxpayer’s money was wrongfully refunded to fake US taxpayers… but with this new cyber-attack, we suspect that number will soar. Obama’s ‘Cybersecurity Czar’ Is MIA As Hackers Run Wild

Cyber attack concept in word tag cloud isolated on black backgroBy Investor’s Business Daily

In two weeks, we’ve learned that offshore hackers managed to steal 100,000 tax filings and personnel data on millions of federal workers. Who, exactly, is in charge of cybersecurity in this administration?

After the Office of Personnel Management revealed the breach of its network, which allowed hackers from China to steal data on 4 million current and former federal employees, OPM head Katherine Archuleta said: “Protecting our federal employee data from malicious cyber incidents is of the highest priority at OPM.”

It sure doesn’t seem that way.

OPM had been the target of a similar hack originating in China almost exactly one year before, which gained access to some of the office’s databases before being caught. And this time around, hackers rooted around OPM’s network for four months before being caught.

Less than two weeks before, the IRS revealed that hackers from Russia had stolen data on 100,000 tax returns and filed 13,000 bogus returns to the IRS so they could collect $39 billion in “refunds.”

But, as with most things, Obama hasn’t followed through. In fact, in 2012 he replaced his initial “Cybersecurity Czar” — Howard Schmidt, who had been a security executive at Microsoft — with Michael Daniel, a total unknown in cybersecurity. Read More..

Why Does the Left Kowtow to Islam?

Posted on May 29th, 2015

No Islam fearBy Robert Tracinski

You might suspect that the question answers itself. They kowtow to Islam precisely because it is a real threat, a macroaggression that trumps all of the microaggressions. So you could say that it is simple cowardice. They protest against people they know are extremely unlikely to harm them, and they shut up about the fanatics who might actually follow through on their threats.

But I don’t think that’s the fundamental cause. After all, most lefties are not being called upon to take any personal risk, because somebody else has already stuck his neck out. Drawing or publishing a cartoon of Mohammed might get you put on an al-Qaeda hit list. Simply saying that you support the cartoonist’s defiance of that threat won’t get you on anybody’s list.

In fact, a running theme of the left’s arguments, repeated with a great deal of apparent sincerity, is the notion that it is irrational to fear Islam, that describing the religion as violent and dangerous is “Islamophobia.” They seem to have largely talked themselves into believing that they have nothing personally to fear from Islam. Jihadists may throw gays off of buildings in Syria, but it can’t happen here. Read More..

News Media Have Become ‘Radicalized’ and ‘Marginalized’

Media Explains by Eric Allie, CaglecartoonsBy Brent Bozell

Appearing on FBN’s Cavuto Friday night, MRC President Brent Bozell argued that the news media are losing the trust of the American public because they’ve become more “marginalized” and “radicalized” during the Obama years, deliberately ignoring news “if it harms the narrative of the left.”

Host Neil Cavuto began the segment, part of an hour-long look at the issue of trust in America, by pointing out that “the media itself is one of the least-trusted institutions, second only to Congress,” and yet many in the media continue to champion government action as a cure to social ills.

Both MRC’s Bozell and The Hill‘s Lauren Ashburn agreed that the media were too infatuated with government to act as an effective watchdog. But when Ashburn disagreed that journalists were ignoring liberal scandals, pointing to recent coverage of the Clinton Foundation scandal, Bozell called that “nonsense.”

They have not gotten to the bottom of a single one of the Obama scandals….Look at the IRS, look at Benghazi, look at the VA, look at so many scandals — they’ve been dropped. This one, this Clinton one, will be dropped as well. Read More..

The Smoking Gun That Ties the IRS Scandal to Obama and Democratic Party

Posted on May 11th, 2015

IRS tax drop boxesEDITOR’S COMMENT: MUST READ! True story of a politically motivated ‘criminal’ attack by the IRS against the conservative-minded author. If this could happen to him, it could easily happen to you! Clearly, this smacks of Obama’s version of Watergate. Let’s hope the facts surface in the Senate investigation, as it appears, at the moment, that the mainstream media remains complicit in these matters.

By Wayne Allyn Root

The IRS scandal just won’t go away- kind of like Watergate. The media knew about Watergate for many months, wrote about it, it simmered, it boiled, then it turned into a bigger-than-life scandal that destroyed Nixon’s presidency. Could that be a repeat of how the Obama IRS scandal is playing out?

Up until now, no one has been able to physically tie the IRS scandal to the Obama White House or the Democratic Party. That just changed. Read More..

Audit: IRS Gave Promotions to Tax Cheaters

Posted on May 8th, 2015

WAIMH Red ArrowBy Stephen Dinan

The IRS refused to fire most of its own employees found to be cheating on their taxes— and in some cases even quickly turned around and promoted them within the year, according to a new audit released Wednesday.

In about 60 percent of cases of “willful violations” IRS managers found mitigating circumstances and refused to fire the employees, even though the law calls for that penalty. In some of those cases the managers didn’t even document why they’d overridden the penalty, said Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George.

“Given its critical role in Federal tax administration, the IRS must ensure that its employees comply with the tax law in order to maintain the public’s confidence,” Mr. George said. “Willful violation of the law by IRS employees should not be taken lightly, and the IRS Commissioner should fully document decisions made to retain employees whom management has proposed be terminated.” Read More..
