Memo to ‘60 Minutes’: Stop Treating Iran Like a Democracy

Trust but vilify from www.caglecartoons.com # 166492By Aaron Goldstein

I saw the 60 Minutes interview with Iranian President Rouhani the other night and found much, but not all of the interview by Steve Kroft annoying. My annoyance began with the first paragraph of his report:

Few issues have inspired more vitriol this summer than the historic agreement between Iran and six world powers: the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany. The deal drastically curtails Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

How exactly is Iran’s nuclear program curtailed considering that Iran can still enrich uranium, can inspect itself on top of getting billions in sanctions relief?

Kroft began one of his questions with this bit of editorializing. “The United States seems to have its hardliners and Iran seems to have its hardliners,” said Kroft before asking Rouhani if he saw similarities between the two. Iran’s hardliners imprison, torture, and execute their political opponents and seek the destruction of a neighboring state. How hardline can Republicans be when the Corker amendment assured the deal’s passage? There is simply no comparison. Kroft’s tone of moral equivalence is utterly insufferable. Here’s more proof:

President Rouhani’s boss, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has final say on the agreement and has sent it to the Iranian Parliament and the Supreme National Security Council on national security for a vigorous debate.

How the hell does Kroft know if there is going to be a “vigorous debate” in the Iranian Parliament and the Supreme National Security Council? These are nothing more than rubber stamp institutions. And yet Kroft gives these institutions more legitimacy than our own Senate. In the very first sentence of his report, he characterizes the debate over the Iran nuclear agreement in this country as one of “vitriol” before calling its critics hardliners. Kroft gives Iran undeserved deference. Read More..

Average NYC School Janitor Makes $109K a Year

WAIMH Red ArrowBy Thomas Lifson

There’s just not enough money for education, right?  Did you know that in Japan, Taiwan, and other countries whose students outperform American public schools by orders of magnitude, there are no janitors, and the kids do cleanup of the schools?  Not our kids.

Aaron Short in the NY Post:

School custodians are cleaning up — in the hallways and in their paychecks — because the city doesn’t want to hire enough of them.

Custodians took home an average pay of $109,467 in the 2013-14 school yearand 634 of the city’s 799 custodians earned more than $100,000 in salary and overtime during that time, city payroll records show.

That’s because of the city’s 1,500 school buildings, 238 have no full-time custodian on site, up 74 percent from the 137 empty slots in 2012, according to data from the custodians union.

The arrangement is forcing nearly one-third of the city’s 737 custodians to cover two schools — and reap additional pay. Read More..

Hillary’s Latest Excuse: ‘There Is No Evidence’

Hillary campaign reboot from www.caglecartoons.com # 168789By New York Post

Months into her email scandal, Hillary Clinton is still trying to get away with lines like, “There’s no evidence of that.” Oh, and answering questions with laughter.

No wonder she keeps falling in the polls — behind a 74-year-old Brooklyn-born socialist in the first two primary states, where more folks are paying attention.

On CNN’s “The Situation Room” last week, she faced questions about the claim by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie that she should face criminal charges for using a private email account and server to conduct official State Department business, including emails with highly classified information.

Clinton burst into laughter.

She kept up the giggling when asked about the chance that hackers from Russia or China broke into her server to glean national-security secrets. And then gave the lawyerly answer, “There’s no evidence of that.” Read More..

4 Out of 5 Refugees Claiming Asylum in Europe Not From Syria

EU governments, especially Germany, France, and the U.K., have been claiming that other countries must take in more refugees because they’re mostly coming from war-torn Syria.

But statistics released by the EU show exactly the opposite.  Of 213,000 refugees who applied for asylum in April, May, and June, only 44,000 were fleeing the violence in Syria.  The rest – including 14,000 Albanians whose nation is at peace – are being described as “economic refugees.”

Daily Mail:

Campaigners and left-wing MPs have suggested the vast majority of migrants are from the war-torn state, accusing the Government of doing too little to help them.

‘This exposes the lie peddled in some quarters that vast numbers of those reaching Europe are from Syria, said David Davies, Tory MP for Monmouth. ‘Most people who are escaping the war will go to camps in Lebanon or Jordan.

‘Many of those who have opted to risk their lives to come to Europe have done so for economic reasons.’

Sir Bill Cash, a fellow Tory, said: ‘These figures make extremely disturbing reading. The whole argument has been made that this influx is all real refugees from Syria whereas this adds to the substantial evidence that there are a large number of economic migrants who are aiming for a better life.’ Read More..

The Climate Has Been Changing Since Genesis 1:1, So Why Is Pope Francis Suddenly So Concerned?

Posted on September 22nd, 2015

President Barack Obama with Pope Francis at the VaticanBy Gene J. Koprowski

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) tells Townhall.com that he is planning to boycott the Congressional address of Pope Francis this week. The reason? The Congressman is concerned that the speech is going to be completely politically correct, not traditionally Christian in focus. He also is outraged that the secular progressives at U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) helped co-write His Holiness’ environmental encyclical earlier this year, and does not want to offer even tacit support for that ideological document.

“Media reports indicate His Holiness instead intends to focus the brunt of his speech on climate change–a climate that has been changing since first created in Genesis. More troubling is the fact that this climate change talk has adopted all of the socialist talking points, wrapped false science and ideology into climate justice and is being presented to guilt people into leftist policies. If the Pope stuck to standard Christian theology, I would be the first in line,” wrote Rep. Gosar. “If the Pope spoke out with moral authority against violent Islam, I would be there cheering him on. If the Pope urged the Western nations to rescue persecuted Christians in the Middle East, I would back him wholeheartedly. But when the Pope chooses to act and talk like a leftist politician, then he can expect to be treated like one. Artist and columnist Maureen Mullarkey effectively communicated this fallacy stating, When papal preferences, masked in a Christian idiom, align themselves with ideological agendas (e.g. radical environmentalism) [they] impinge on democratic freedoms and the sanctity of the individual.’”

Concluded the Congressman, “the earth’s climate has been changing since God created it, with or without man. On that, we should all agree. In Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment (written with the consultation of that great seminary the EPA and its embattled head Gina McCarthy), he condemned anyone skeptical of the link between human activity and climate change and adopted the false science being propagated by the Left.  If the Pope wants to devote his life to fighting climate change then he can do so in his personal time. But to promote questionable science as Catholic dogma is ridiculous.”     (my emphasis)

Democrats Once Again Place Party Before Country and Duty

Posted on September 21st, 2015

Henderson County DemocratsBy James Longstreet

Back in May of this year, the Senate voted 98 to 1 on a measure that allowed Congress to review a nuclear deal with Iran.  That would mean that roughly 44 Senate Democrats voted for the legislation at that point in time.

Flash forward to today.

The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 mandates that the 60-day congressional review period cannot begin until the nuclear agreement with Iran, and all related materials outlined in the Act, are transmitted to Congress. President Obama has failed to provide separate side agreements and federal guidance materials to Congress, so the review period cannot have begun without the majority leader’s consent.

The Democrats apparently have not stood by their May 2015 vote.  Materials have not been provided by Obama, and there have been no questions at press conferences of President Obama as to why this has not occurred, yet the agreement progresses.  Void of information, short on facts, and without the transparency and debate necessary in such a matter, the “deal” goes forward.

Lost are the checks and balances of our system.  Distant and forgotten is the historical and constitutional requirement that the Senate ratify treaties with other nations rather than be forced to muster the votes to override them, as in this case.

Sadly, the GOP lies down again.  The Republicans control both the House and the Senate, yet Obama gets what he wants in some magical fashion and circumvention of our system of government.     (my emphasis)    Read More..

Mysterious Blue Lines Are Appearing On Curbs Across America. Here’s The Meaning Behind Them…

Blue line police supportBy Jack Davis

The thin blue line that symbolizes America’s embattled police officers is taking on a literal meaning in city after city.

Through the Safe Harbor Initiative, Anthony Welichko of San Antonio is urging Americans to spray paint a blue line on the curb by their home as a simple public affirmation of their support for the police.

“To all law enforcement who see this line, know that the residents of this home appreciate your service and dedication to keeping the peace,” Welichko wrote on Facebook. “Know that when you enter the neighborhood and see these lines that you are not alone or without ‘back-up.’ We do not need the media to make our voices of support for our police and emergency services heard (though it would be nice). Lastly, if you are in my neighborhood and mean to harm a member of law enforcement, know that decision may be hazardous you (sic) health as someone has that officers (sic) back!”

“The war against police, if you will, gets a lot of attention. I get the sense that the officers themselves aren’t seeing that support,” said Welichko. “Every single day they’re here protecting us. Our families. Our children. They absolutely deserve that respect, and they need to know we appreciate that.” Read More..

Democrats Threaten Shutdown for Higher Spending

Media blames GOP for government shutdown by Gary McCoy, Cagle CartoonsBy Phil Kerpen

Congress has just  returned from vacation with the clock rapidly ticking toward a government shutdown because of a deliberate strategy adopted by Senate Democrats to block all of the bills that fund the government. Their goal? To renege on the Budget Control Act, the historic agreement capping discretionary spending that both parties agreed to and President Obama signed in 2011, and go back to irresponsible, runaway federal spending.

Democrats have been open, even boastful, about their strategy. Harry Reid announced it in June in a splashy story on the liberal website Politico. The Senate’s top Democratic appropriator, Barbara Mikulski, went on the record, saying: “The president will veto bills at this allocation, and Democrats will vote against motions to proceed to these bills on the Senate floor.” The allocation she was referring to was the spending levels both parties and the president agreed to that are now, by law, binding caps. Reid put it more plainly: “We’re headed for another shutdown.”

Got that? Democrats want to shut down the government if they can’t spend more money than they themselves agreed to on the EPA, the IRS, HHS, and all the rest of the vast, wasteful federal bureaucracies. It would be tragic for the country if Democrats succeed because the Budget Control Act caps are working. Read More..

Cost of EPA’s Toxic Spill Could Soar to Nearly $30 Billion

Colorful Colorado EPA catastrophe from www.caglecartoons.com # 167409By John Siciliano

The cost of cleaning up a major toxic waste spill in the West caused by an Environmental Protection Agency contractor could soar as high as $27.7 billion.

That’s the conclusion of study released Tuesday morning by the right-leaning American Action Forum. The group is one of the first to attempt to estimate the clean-up cost of what will likely be remembered as one of the biggest environmental disasters of 2015.

The toxic spill began Aug. 5 when an EPA contractor accidentally ruptured a wall holding back millions of gallons of wastewater containing a variety of toxic substances such as mercury and lead at a closed gold mine in Colorado.

The resulting spill created a yellow plume of toxic sludge that flowed through Colorado, New Mexico and Utah via the Animas and San Juan rivers.

EPA and state officials say much of the toxic plume has dissipated in the Animas River, which the EPA confirmed Friday as being back to pre-spill conditions. But concerns remain that pollution in the rivers’ sediment layers may have to be removed, with officials predicting a clean-up effort that could take years to complete. Read More..

CNN’s Jake Tapper Stages a Food Fight at GOP Debate

GOP debate Reagan libraryBy Lee Cary

Last night, the CNN Republican presidential candidates fell into a trap set by CNN’s Jake Tapper, aided by two junior questioners.

The intent, made clear in the framing of the questions, was to position the candidates to dispute each other’s positions with a focus on bringing the most heat on Donald Trump.

The tagline under the streaming video on the CNN website read: “Trump gets hit from all sides.”

Shamelessly, that’s what CNN wanted to happen, so it did.

The consequence was much heat and little light in an event that more resembled a World Wrestling Entertainment stage than a debate among serious American presidential candidates. Read More..
